New Record

It's no secret that i've been in a drought as of late. Mute was a product of it, and I had to strain for that. Anyway, I have been itching to start a band. Something similar to if an electro rock band hd to record at 2am in their grandmothers living room. Because of this, i have been writing and recording like mad. Maybe i don't need the band. Anyways, a new record is coming. i have to find a singer first though.

Lolita Burns by the Lake

I will be doing a music video for Ghoul Poon for "Lolita Burns by the Lake" off of his new record "Dog Buys Pistol". In return, shane (and chris i assume) will be doing a video for me. which song? no idea. look forward to it.

Nousie Pie Ce

I released a single the other day, that just happens to be longer than any of my e.p.s so i am calling it an e.p., for my noise friends. it's called "Nouise Pie Ce" because when i am recording, i type in a hurry, i have music to worry about not spelling. so i just left it. fuck it.

it's 18:11 long. Ambient/noise stuff. anyways, the link is over on my myspace and i am too lazy to go over and copy/paste it here.

go get it, and like it.

Do the Fright Thing, and some rambling.

So last night I attended Ghoul Poon/Witness/Wake Up Electrified/Charlie Everywhere in Glens Falls. It was my first time seeing GP's set. Blew me away. Some drunken cunt kept trying to dance in front of me and get my attention, but the worst thing you can do in those situations is actually give them attention. ignore them, they go away. So I missed out on some of "Botanica", because I had to turn around and order a jack and coke from the bar to try to passively fend this bitch off, but in general, Ghoul Poon owns live. Witness, a little white rapper from philly I thought it was going to be garbage, but he is a skilled kid, and put on a great show. Wake Up Electrified, well, I didn't enjoy them as much, but they were entertaining. Charlie Everywhere, always good. What can I say? Talking to Josh and Sarah afterwards, I may be remixing "When I'm Small" soon. Looking forward to that. Quite a bit. anyways...

Shane was handing out early copies of "Do the Fright Thing", the Halloween compilation he has put together (i'm track 4 if you care), so it was a little bonus for attending. The comp has some really great stuff on it. Shane appears on it like 500 times, in his various forms, and his ghoul poon counterpart and my friend Chris Brown also is on there numerous times. Not to mention (even though I am) it is loaded with great area groups like Desperately Obvious, Worlds of Shit, Pinkriverdolphin, Beware! The Other Head of Science, Firefighter Font, Scientific Maps, and a ton more (21 tracks in total). So, it will be available for download from sub-bombin.com soon and you can also grab a copy at ghoul poon shows. so do it, you won't be disappointed.

Exciting things on the horizon.

Some i don't want to say out loud, as they seem to good to be true. Working on the music for a cover of "What I've Seen" by Daniel Johnston for Shane. Speaking of, played the UAG with him the other night in a full on noise set. Half my shit stopped working during set up. So I played feedback, as much as someone can. It was a good set though i think. It's nice hearing people clap and shit, and mean it. You can tell when they don't.

anyways, the general reaction to mute seems to be fairly positive. So, if you haven't yet, pick up a copy or download it. As always I am recording new stuff. I think it's an addiction. Maybe I'll shit out a new e.p. before the end of the year. we'll see.

might start a new band with some friends of mine.

Mute

In the next couple of days, I will be putting up a new E.P. for download. It's called "Mute" and it follows a thread dealing with, well, basically, writers block. Or musicians block. or painters block. whatever you want to call it. Anyone who actually creates things knows how downright fucking awful it feels to not be able to do it for periods of time. "Mute" was written in one of those periods. It has two songs on it that you may have already heard "The Monster" and "Hissing in the Speaker". Plus a couple of new ones. It is by far the weakest E.P. of mine to date. But it's like the fourth orgasm of the day, it's not as great, but you're still happy to get it out. In all reality, I don't feel like this e.p. is for the casual listener. It's for the blocked thinkers. It's not inspiration for them though, it's more like, "Hi, I feel that way too." anyways, a few days from now.

also, on a side note, I've spent a while against you. I'm tired of it. I no longer am familiar.

Take me by the hand, and walk me to the end of the pier

My collaboration with Shane (Ghoul Poon) is almost done. A cover of "Infected" by The The.
after this I think we are going to try to get together and write new material. hopefully, it will all go well. In the meantime, He is putting out a halloween compilation called "Do the Fright Thing". I have a song on there called "The Monster". It's not very good. Also, you may have noticed my myspace has a song on it called "Hissing in the Speaker". It's my first post-wanderlust track. meh.
Did you notice the KISS?

anyways, I am demoing some new stuff now, seems my brain is functioning again. must be the centrum.

Halloween Song and Wanderlust update.

I reworked my halloween track for the comp that shane is putting together. the track is now called "The Monster". DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ENDING TOO LOUD unless you want to have to go buy new ears. I sent it his way, and now hopefully it will show up on the halloween comp at some shows or something. i hope you like it.

Wanderlust. this fucking albatross. The songs are done. they are half assedly mixed. I don't think i am going to put it out. I am not very happy with the way it is turning out. or has turned out, i suppose. Maybe this can be considered my "lost record" if someone with as little reach as myself can even have one of those. I am in a tumultuos time at the moment, and while that should be inspiring me to stay up all night laying down tracks and scribbling lyrics, it isn't, which is probably the reason i am so fed up with "Wanderlust". I promise though, I will be getting new music out, just maybe not as soon as i would like. Who knows though, i have a way of randomly pumping out songs.

keep an eye out for the halloween comp.

a halloween song?

okie dokie, well i have to write and record a "halloween themed song" in the next few weeks for a comp. hmmm... I've never really been that solid with lyrics or anything, so we'll see how it goes. i have been wanting to cover "The Time Warp" for a while...

taking a shower, going to the bank, recording new music.

those are the plans for today.

don't know what i'll record... hmmm... waiting for steven to get back to me on the AB tracks i did, shane will be at mill fest i think, so i can't try to sched something for today... i was thinking of covering "Infected" by the the, but i wanted to do it with GP. hmmm, tap tap tap...

i want to record an e.p.

maybe i'll make a minimal, D&B/Triphop/Folk thing...

idk. we'll find out later if i actually do anything.

in the bigger scheme of things

always worrying about the wrong things
and as much as i insist on over analyzing EVERYTHING
i fail to see anything.

i want to know ignorance
and serenity.

i want to kill everything until
i have my clarity
my MOMENT
when i say to myself from the back of my head somewhere
"asa, what are you thinking? don't be dumb".

but i am, dumb.

i am sick of the word "potential".

i am sick of people thinking i could be better than i am.

can't you see that i am already straining to just be this?

no coat no shoes.
and all things will pass i suppose.
and i can fade into the background.

i look forward to rest.
inexpressibly.

have been sick for three days.

scarlet fever or something. idk. sucks, though.

Thursday, August 7, 2008

i was going to post some pictures

of various moments (ie: some pics from live events, with musician friends of mine, random things) but i didn't. take that.

AandtheBKillers

so, work has begun on finally recording an L.P. from AandtheBKillers. We were somewhat notorious (in our small circle) for recording lo-fi limited e.p.'s consisting of mainly four track demos and live recordings for a brief peiod, and never having decent sounding shit. Well, even though AB was pronounced dead last year, Steven recently proposed the idea of recording a new L.P., funny enough, i had been thinking about this for some time now (you may or may not remember the dirty version of "No More I Told You So" popping up out of nowhere on the AB myspace for a short time). A few months ago, i was fucking around in photoshop with some old AB pics and one of them read "AandtheMOTHERFUCKINGBKillers". I loved it. So, I started writing some new material, and rehearsing all of the old stuff. Later that week, I talked to steven (who is in florida right now studying audio production and all of that), and he had said that he too had been rehearsing AB stuff, for no apparent reason. I thought 'the time has come', or some corny shit like that, and then we didn't do anything about it. But, now we are. We are recording (with Jon, here and there) about 16 tracks (some new, some old) that will probably be wittled down to about 10 for an L.P. called... yeah, "AandtheMOTHERFUCKINGBKillers". The other six tracks? well, if they turn out decent, but not spectacular, I'd like to put them onto an e.p. shortly there after.

Despite it's simplicity, and my undying affection for trying to do more and more with music and sound in general, AB is without a doubt my favorite project. I don't know why. I just can't let it disappear.

So, in conclusion, the L.P. should be completed sometime in september, if everything goes well.
I guess I should be hammering away with my guitar and the computer right now...

Ghoul Poon

I have had the pleasure recently to remix a track ("Psychic Car Ride") by Ghoul Poon. Despite the fact that i haven't remixed ANYTHING in close to a year, and the 7000 complications i had doing it, i think it has FINALLY turned into something I appreciate. Hopefully, he will (when he hears it) also. If so, it may pop up on a single in the near future, at one of his shows. So, if you want to hear it, get to a fucking Ghoul Poon show, and get whatever music he has to offer.

...

i thought you said it would stop?

Thursday, July 24, 2008

i got a haircut (not much is going on)

cut it all of. i mean, poof, gone.

anyways, last week, i recorded 6 demos for possible tracks.
some sound like AandtheBKillers type material, some sound more personal.

the personal ones i don't think i will release. i rarely put out songs that say too much about me.
it's uncomfortable.

besides that...
Shane Sanchez (Ghoul Poon) and I have been kicking around the idea of doing a collaborative e.p. for some time now. We have worked out a scheme that might work, and hopefully it comes to fruition. I think it could be really interesting.

times are tough.
if i drink enough water, could i flush it out?
